Chicago Alderman Reacts to Senior Public Safety Advisor’s Arrest

A Chicago alderman, David Moore (17th), expressed strong displeasure after learning about the arrest of a senior public safety advisor, Alyxandra Goodwin, in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration. Goodwin, who earns $103,488 per year, was arrested for an outstanding warrant on Tuesday.

Goodwin, who played a significant role in the administration’s opposition to ShotSpotter technology, was apprehended by Chicago police in the 6600 block of South Cornell. The arrest was made in connection with an outstanding DuPage County warrant related to a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license. Court records indicate that Goodwin was detained following a court appearance on Wednesday.

Ald. David Moore took to social media to express his frustration, particularly in light of Mayor Johnson’s decision to cancel the ShotSpotter program against the advice of various stakeholders. Moore emphasized his commitment to serving his constituents and advocating for policies that benefit the community.

Moore’s post highlighted his concerns about individuals and organizations from outside the community influencing decisions that impact residents’ safety. He criticized the administration for hiring Goodwin, whose views on policing and public safety align with efforts to defund certain initiatives.

Goodwin’s background in social justice advocacy and her previous statements regarding policing as “the muscle of racial capitalism” have raised questions about her role in the administration. Despite her involvement in progressive causes, her recent arrest has drawn attention to potential conflicts of interest.

The mayor’s office declined to comment on the situation when contacted for input on the matter.
