In her remarks on CNNâs News Central, Grijalva expressed:
âGenerally, I prefer to avoid conspiracy theories, yet I find it difficult to see a logical explanation for this. Speaker Johnson has already sworn in three other members who were elected in special circumstancesâtwo Republicans on April 1, followed by one Democrat, Walkinshaw, recently, who was sworn in just under 24 hours after election day. Meanwhile, weâve seen sessions canceled, including mid-September and early October. Iâve been left without direct communication from the Speakerâs office, making it unclear when I might finally take my oath.”
She further revealed that many Democrats believe the Epstein files discharge petition is at the crux of her delayed swearing-in:
“Iâve received indications that my swearing-in relates directly to the discharge petition. As a woman of color and a Chicana from Tucson, I can’t help but question whether transparencyâor a lack thereofâplays a role in these delays. The Speaker has recently blocked votes that could have addressed the Epstein files, suggesting a more extensive connection.”
Johnson has a track record of delaying the admission of new Democratic members as a tactic to gain time before difficult votesâa strategy that appears in play again, whether it’s regarding the government shutdown, the Epstein files, or possibly both.
