Former President Trump took to social media to poke fun at Rev. Al Sharpton, sharing a vintage and unflattering photo of the civil rights activist while questioning how he maintains his television presence, which Trump claims is the “lowest rated” in history.

Trump’s critique of Sharpton unfolded in a lengthy post on Truth Social late Sunday, where he called on the Federal Communications Commission to reconsider the broadcast licenses of NBC and ABC.

The image, dating back to around 1988, features a noticeably heavier Sharpton in a vibrant red shirt adorned with suspenders and a large gold pendant.

“I’ve known Al Sharpton for a long time, and although it may not matter, he was once a significant ‘TRUMP’ supporter. He would frequently ask me to attend his contrived rallies, as my presence drew large crowds which he struggled to achieve on his own,” Trump remarked.

Trump further criticized Sharpton, alleging his credibility was severely damaged after his involvement in the 1987 Tawana Brawley rape case, where a 15-year-old girl falsely accused four white men of the crime.

“Then he became acquainted with Brian Roberts, Chairman of NBC, who granted him what has become one of the weakest shows in television history. Roberts fears removing Sharpton from the air would not align with ‘political correctness’,” Trump stated, mistakenly referencing the networks.

“This is just one reason why the Federal Communications Commission ought to investigate NBC’s license, which seems focused almost entirely on delivering favorable content to Democrats. The same applies to ABC, whose coverage is about 97% negative towards Republicans!”

Sharpton hosts “PoliticsNation,” which airs on MSNBC.

Trump has previously proposed that the government should revoke broadcast licenses from various news networks, particularly those that air unfavorable coverage of him.
