A woman from Georgia was arrested after her unlicensed daycare reportedly led to the tragic death of a 2-year-old boy, who was mauled by her Rottweilers while she took an extended nap on Saturday, according to law enforcement officials.

The child, identified as Kaimir Jones, was discovered deceased in the backyard of 48-year-old Stacy Wheeler Cobb at around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, as stated in a press release issued by the Valdosta Police Department.

According to investigators, Kaimir slipped outside while Cobb was sleeping and unintentionally managed to unlock the kennel that contained the large Rottweilers.

According to police, Kaimir’s mother had entrusted her son to Cobb, and he was the only child in attendance on that particular day.

Authorities reported that Cobb’s daycare, which she operated without a license, had the capacity for up to 10 children at once.

Cobb indicated to officials that she believed the child was safe while she rested for over two hours.

“This is an awful and tragic incident that should have never happened. Because of this individual’s negligence, a mother is grieving the loss of her child. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family,” said VPD Chief Leslie Manahan.

“No words can alleviate their sorrow, but our thoughts are with them during this incredibly challenging time. I also include our first responders in my thoughts as they deal with the aftermath of this heartbreaking situation.”

Cobb has been charged with second-degree murder and child cruelty.

The three Rottweilers, along with another dog at Cobb’s residence, were surrendered to the Lowndes County Animal Control as stated in the press release.

Adrianna Jones, Kaimir’s mother, shared that her maternal instinct drove her to leave work early and check on her son after hours passed without any word from Cobb, according to a note on GoFundMe.

“This was a heartbreaking and traumatic scene that no one should ever experience. I found my baby in that condition,” she recounted.

Jones also mentioned that Cobb came highly recommended.
