Actress and vocalist Ashley Park has been named a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme.
The star of “Emily in Paris” has made a name for herself in advocating for food security on a global scale. She took the lead on a fundraising initiative for Sudan during a famine crisis, successfully raising over $500,000 and delivering more than a million meals.
On World Food Day 2024, Park partnered with WFP Goodwill Ambassador Michael Kors in a video aimed at raising awareness about the organization’s local school feeding program and how it benefits women farmers, children, and entire communities. Recently, she launched another fundraising effort aimed at supplying food for mothers and children dealing with malnutrition.
“It is a great honor and privilege for me to become a Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme,” Park expressed in a statement on Wednesday. “I am eager to amplify the voices of women, children, and communities grappling with hunger and to motivate others to join me in taking action. The challenge of ending hunger can feel daunting, but having witnessed the scale and effectiveness of WFP’s operations, I believe it is achievable. I encourage everyone to discover more about WFP and to support its vital initiatives. Access to food is a basic right, and without it, the aspirations and potential of countless individuals are at stake.”
WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain remarked, “I am excited to welcome Ashley into our WFP family during a time when humanitarian challenges are increasing and famine is again a harsh reality for many. Her compelling voice will be instrumental in rallying support as we strive to deliver lifesaving food to millions of severely hungry individuals, including children and women. I hope Ashley’s inspiring commitment to humanitarian efforts will motivate many young people to engage with our global mission. Together, we can save lives and work towards a future where no one sleeps hungry.”
Other notable figures serving as WFP Goodwill Ambassadors include Kate Hudson, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Ons Jabeur, Son Heung-Min, Andrew Zimmern, and Antoni Porowski.
