Jack Ciattarelli criticized Rep. Mikie Sherrill’s proposal to declare a state of emergency in order to reduce energy costs, calling it a superficial and impractical strategy.

“My opponent has presented a plan that is not only unrealistic but also unsupported. Even Governor Phil Murphy, from her own party, has remarked, ‘I don’t think you can do that,’” Ciattarelli stated.

Reducing energy expenses has been a primary point for Sherrill as she discusses plans for making living costs more manageable for New Jersey residents.

“There are 77 incumbent Democrats in the legislature, with 52 on the ballot this election, and not a single one has shown support for her immediate strategy to lower electricity rates,” the Republican candidate remarked.

To combat rising energy costs, which he highlighted as reaching unprecedented levels in New Jersey, Ciattarelli proposed withdrawing from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (REGI), labeling it a “failure” that he claims has cost the state approximately $300-$500 million annually.

The contentious issue emerged early in the second debate of the campaign held at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center.
