On Friday, four anti-ICE demonstrators were taken into custody during a tumultuous protest outside a DHS facility in Chicago. This event unfolded following a federal judge’s decision to hinder President Trump’s plan to deploy National Guard troops to the city.
Riot-equipped Illinois State police confronted a restless gathering near the ICE facility in Broadview, as demonstrations continued to escalate in Chicago due to Trump’s aggressive immigration policies, according to WLS.
Protesters shouted “the whole world is watching” as officers wielding batons engaged with the aggressive crowd, as evidenced by video clips shared online.
Images captured showed at least four individuals being forcefully pulled from the throng by police, as they were handcuffed and escorted away.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office reported that those arrested have been charged with resisting arrest and obstruction, as noted by WLS.
The protests have intensified since Trump launched “Operation Midway Blitz,” which targets illegal immigration in the city, facing significant resistance from local officials and demonstrators.
Trump had deployed hundreds of National Guard members to assist DHS in carrying out deportations, but on Thursday, a temporary restraining order was issued by Biden-appointed District Judge April Perry, blocking the National Guard’s deployment in Illinois.
Friday’s unrest followed the dropping of felony charges against protesters Ray Collins and Jocelyn Robledo, who had confronted ICE officers with firearms outside the same facility on September 27. The local grand jury had declined to indict them, as reported.
In a separate incident in Lincoln Square, video editor Debbie Brockman for local WGN-TV was detained by ICE officers, according to the Chicago Tribune.
She faces allegations of assaulting a federal law enforcement officer, according to DHS.
Video showed Brockman being taken down on the pavement amidst public outcry, as several individuals recorded the altercation.
Subsequent footage depicts her being placed into the back of an unmarked minivan, which collides with another vehicle while rushing away from the crowd of protesters, as per online videos.
