Tragedy struck Mississippi on Friday night as two separate shootings during homecoming celebrations claimed six lives.

This wave of violence coincides with the recent actions taken by President Trump, who has deployed federal and National Guard forces to combat crime in Memphis, right next to northern Mississippi.

The first incident unfolded at a high school homecoming event in Leland, Mississippi, resulting in four fatalities and over a dozen injuries.

A second shooting occurred in Heidelberg, Mississippi, just hours later, leaving two dead and at least one additional individual wounded.

Current reports indicate that the perpetrators are still at large.

According to the Daily Mail:

The tragic outbreak of violence initiated around midnight on Leland’s main street, as reported by Mayor John Lee to CBS.

Residents had gathered to witness a homecoming football game between Leland High School and Charleston High School.

Eyewitnesses shared harrowing accounts, with some feeling compelled to hide in the trunks of their vehicles to avoid the gunfire.

As of now, no suspects are in custody. The Daily Mail reached out to the Leland Police Department for updates, but was informed that no additional details could be shared at this time.

After the event, Mayor John Lee took to Facebook to express his sorrow, stating, “I’m deeply saddened by this tragedy,” while canceling an upcoming block party.

In the Heidelberg incident, gunfire erupted on school grounds, where officials confirmed the deaths of two victims.

As reported by WDAM:

A festive night dedicated to high school football turned into chaos as gunshots rang out at the Heidelberg High School football field.

Police Chief Cornell White stated that two individuals were killed on the grounds, with at least one other injured.

One victim was found on the school’s baseball field, while another succumbed in a tailgating area adjacent to the bleachers.

Authorities confirmed that the shooter or shooters remain unidentified and at large.

This is an evolving situation.
