Chicago authorities are looking into an incident involving a licensed gun owner who shot a man attempting to run him over with his stolen vehicle Sunday morning in the South Shore neighborhood.

The individual, who holds a concealed carry permit, dialed 911 at approximately 7:14 a.m., informing them that two suspects had just taken his blue 2023 Acura and aimed to strike him in an alley adjacent to the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue.

Less than five minutes later, a 23-year-old male arrived at the University of Chicago Medical Center suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back. He was immediately rushed into surgery and is currently reported to be in critical condition.

At the scene of the shooting, officers located three shell casings and spoke with the licensed firearm holder on Sunday morning.

As of Sunday evening, no arrests or charges had been reported against any individuals involved in this incident.
