“The Inbetweeners,” the beloved British teen comedy series that delivered a treasure trove of crude yet hilarious quotes along with two successful spin-off films, appears poised for a revival.

Banijay UK in collaboration with Fudge Park Productions, founded in 2015 by show creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, have finalized a deal that aims to “pave the way for the return of this popular comedy franchise.” Details regarding the format of “The Inbetweeners’” revival and its distribution platform remain undisclosed, although Morris and Beesley hinted that it will focus on the original characters.

“It’s incredibly exciting to map out more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends),” they expressed in a statement.

Initially aired on E4 in the U.K. from 2008 to 2019, “The Inbetweeners” chronicles the comedic escapades of suburban teen Will MacKenzie and his buddies Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland, and Jay Cartwright at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive as they navigate school life, friendships, brotherhood, lad culture, and awkward romantic encounters. The show was originally intended as a more authentic counterpart to the popular teen drama “Skins,” highlighting an awkward adolescence that, as Morris noted, is largely “crap.”

Across three series, “The Inbetweeners” achieved record ratings for the channel and garnered numerous awards. The franchise expanded with two successful films released in 2011 and 2014, the first of which broke the record for the highest opening weekend for a U.K. comedy at the time, while the sequel also set box office records.

Produced by Bwark Productions— the original company established by Morris and Beesley, which was later sold to Zodiak Media (acquired by Banijay in 2016)— the new agreement unlocks “the rights and opportunities to reintroduce 'The Inbetweeners' to new audiences across various formats, including film, television, and stage.”

“We are thrilled to announce this remarkable partnership with Banijay, who share our vision and ambition for one of the most iconic comedies in British television history,” stated Jonathan Blyth, managing director of Fudge Park. “This is an exciting moment for fans, and there is much more news to come soon.”

Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, added: “Having worked with Damon and Iain on several projects at Fudge Park over the years, I’m excited to continue discussing the future of 'The Inbetweeners' with them. They possess a contagious creative vision for the brand that will connect with both old fans and new audiences; I can’t wait to get started.”

Banijay Rights serves as the distributor for “The Inbetweeners.”

Since concluding the series, Morris and Beesley have been involved in various projects, both collaboratively and independently, including the comedy film “The Festival” and the BBC series ‘The First Team.’ Additionally, Beesley created the series “White Gold,” featuring many cast members from “The Inbetweeners,” while Morris co-wrote the sports comedy “Next Goal Wins” with Taika Waititi, contributed to the Apple series “Time Bandits,” and most recently directed the Netflix film “My Oxford Year.”
