Mandy Moore has shared her heartfelt condolences following the passing of Diane Keaton, almost 18 years after their collaboration in Because I Said So.

Moore expressed via Instagram on Saturday, October 11, “They say never meet your heroes, but I had the privilege to work alongside one of mine and even call her ‘mom’ for a few months. What an incredible honor.”

She added, “I can hardly believe she’s gone, not just for all the reasons but also because she seemed eternal, always captivating us with her talent and charm (not to mention her impeccable style). Truly one of the greatest. Sending all my love to her family and friends.”

Moore continued to honor Keaton in her Instagram Stories, posting, “Oh how I loved her. A legend forever.”

It was reported that Keaton passed away at 79. She leaves behind her two sons, Dexter and Duke.

Because I Said So, debuting in 2007, is one of Keaton’s memorable films. In it, she played Daphne Wilder, a stylish baker focused on hooking up her youngest daughter Milly (Moore) with Mr. Right. The film also featured Lauren Graham and Piper Perabo as Daphne’s other children.

On another note, Moore recently reflected on her unforgettable time on set during an episode of Kylie Kelce’s podcast, “Not Gonna Lie,” in July.

“I adore Because I Said So, it’s a project that meant a lot to me, especially working with Diane Keaton,” Moore shared with Kelce, 33. “She’s really up there in my admiration; it was a bucket list experience.”

Keaton, too, cherished the moments spent with the This Is Us star during their time on set.

“I just adore Mandy,” Keaton stated in a Collider interview back in 2007. “She works hard, like a trooper, and you can see her growth as an actress. She combines emotion and humor effortlessly. In this film, she reminds me of Claudia Cardinale; her beauty shines.”

Reflecting on her own parenting experiences, Keaton mentioned how it shaped her character’s approach in the film.

She mentioned, “I offer a lot of feedback where I can. Pictures generally remain as they are, and while you can refine them a bit, the essence stays constant. They were very receptive to my thoughts.”

Keaton, known for her unique fashion sense, also infused her distinctive style into Daphne’s persona.

“I envisioned her as quite the colorful character, always in her own world,” Keaton said in the interview. “It didn’t really connect to anyone beyond herself, which really reflected her emotional barriers and her distance from her daughters. She is indeed eccentric.”
