Dad charged with killing his 14-year-old daughter’s rapist now running for sheriff: ‘It’s about restoring trust’

A father, accused of murdering his 14-year-old daughter’s rapist, has announced his candidacy for sheriff, asserting that the legal system has fundamentally let him down by charging him with murder.

Aaron Spencer is said to have fatally shot Michael Fosler, 67, after discovering him driving away with his daughter, who had already accused Fosler of grooming and abusing her, as per court documents.

Charged with second-degree murder, Spencer is leveraging this incident to fuel his sheriff campaign in Lonoke County, Arkansas. He shared his intentions in a Facebook video released on Saturday.

“I’m the father who took action to defend his daughter when the system failed to protect her,” Spencer stated in his campaign video.

He expressed, “Through my own challenges in seeking justice, I have witnessed the shortcomings of law enforcement and our circuit court. I refuse to remain idle while others endure similar struggles.”

Spencer labeled his campaign as a movement to regain faith in law enforcement.

“This campaign goes beyond me; it’s for every parent, neighbor, and family that deserves to feel secure in their environment. It’s about re-establishing faith so neighbors trust law enforcement and families are assured they won’t face crises alone,” he declared.

In October 2022, Spencer faced second-degree murder charges after allegedly shooting Fosler when he spotted him in a vehicle with his daughter. Court documents indicate.

After realizing his daughter was missing, Spencer reported driving through their neighborhood, where he eventually found her being taken away by Fosler—a man already facing numerous sexual offense charges against her.

Consequently, he forced Fosler off the road and shot him, according to the police report.

Heather Spencer, Aaron’s wife, initiated an online fundraising campaign for her husband, explaining that their underage daughter had been “targeted, groomed, and ultimately raped by the boyfriend of a family friend.”

“We had faith in the justice system, and the monster who harmed our child was quickly charged, yet he was released just as fast on a $50k bond. He was supposed to appear in court in December for several felonies related to his actions against our daughter,” she noted.

Heather labeled the charges against her “hero” husband as “outrageous,” insisting that without Aaron’s intervention, their child would not have returned home safely.

Spencer is scheduled to appear in court next on December 16 for a pre-trial hearing, with his trial anticipated to commence on January 26, 2026.

The response to his campaign announcement has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Proud to call this man my father!” declared his son, Malachi Spencer.

Another supporter commented, “If I could vote for you a million times, I would!”

“I stand with you as a Veteran and father! We need to unite Veterans and Fathers to protect our children!” remarked a third person.

As of now, the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office has not issued a response to inquiries for comments.
