Seoul:

North Korea has put its artillery units near the border with South Korea on high alert following tensions over drones allegedly flying over the frontier, as reported by state media on Sunday.

Activists and defectors from South Korea have been sending aid packages and dropping leaflets critical of leader Kim Jong Un into North Korea. This has led to increased tensions between the two countries, with North Korea accusing South Korea of supporting these activities. In retaliation, North Korea has been sending balloons filled with trash into South Korea.

The North Korean defense ministry spokesperson, as quoted by the state news agency KCNA, stated that there is a high possibility of more drones entering North Korean airspace. The military has been instructed to be prepared for any potential conflicts that may arise.

North Korea recently accused South Korea of sending drones into Pyongyang during the night, prompting threats of retaliatory action. Kim Yo Jong, the sister of Kim Jong Un, issued a warning to Seoul, stating that the South Korean military would be responsible for any consequences if they failed to prevent drones from crossing the border.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff have not confirmed North Korea’s allegations.
