Technical Glitch Interrupts Stevie Nicks’ Performance on “Saturday Night Live”

Eagle-eyed fans of “Saturday Night Live” were quick to notice a technical issue that arose during the show’s 50th-anniversary season. The incident occurred just before the musical guest, Stevie Nicks, was set to perform her second song. After a flurry of online comments, it was confirmed that there was indeed a glitch that was promptly resolved.

The episode, which had already showcased Oasis impersonations and a stellar monologue from host Ariana Grande, hit a snag as Grande was about to introduce Nicks for her second performance. To address the issue, the show displayed a Nicks billboard for approximately 50 seconds before transitioning to a commercial break.

Once the technical difficulties were sorted out, Grande reintroduced Nicks, who then delivered a flawless rendition of her hit song “Edge of Seventeen.” Despite a brief moment of adjusting her microphone pack, Nicks’ performance was unaffected by the earlier hiccup.

This wasn’t Nicks’ first appearance on “SNL.” Back in 1983, she graced the stage to perform “Nightbird” and “Stand Back” following her tour for the album “The Wild Heart.” Comedian Flip Wilson hosted the show that night.

One memorable moment involving Nicks on “SNL” was a parody performed by Lucy Lawless in 1998. In the sketch, Nicks humorously unveils her fictitious project, “Stevie Nicks’ Fajita Roundup.” Despite Lawless’ initial reservations about the joke, the sketch went on to become a fan favorite.

Reflecting on her concerns about the sketch, Lawless shared, “I did not get the joke. Not being from America, barely having ever eaten proper Mexican food, or Tex-Mex or anything.” She even brought her doubts to show creator Lorne Michaels, who reassured her that the sketch would be a hit.

And indeed, the “Stevie Nicks’ Fajita Roundup” sketch became a beloved moment in “SNL” history, showcasing both Nicks’ enduring appeal and the show’s knack for comedic innovation.
