Showmax is set to broaden its popular “Real Housewives” franchise with the new series “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa,” which will feature prominent cast members from South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria enjoying a vacation in Brazil.
This latest edition comes on the heels of the successful run of “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: South Africa,” which ranked among the top-viewed series on Showmax in 2024. The upcoming series unites 10 housewives from various nations across the continent, in what producers describe as a tribute to Pan-African bonds and glamour.
Representing “The Real Housewives of Durban,” the lineup includes Annie Mthembu (Seasons 1-3), Angel Ndlela (Seasons 4-5), and Jojo Robinson, celebrated for her appearances across four seasons, marking her as the most seasoned Housewife in this ensemble.
From Johannesburg, Madam Evodia Mogase and Christall Kay, two original cast members, emerged as the franchise’s inaugural breakout stars in Africa. Madam Evodia took the spotlight in Season 1, while Kay not only appeared in the debut season but also returned for Season 2, featuring in last year’s “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: South Africa.”
Representing East Africa, Dr. Catherine Masitsa (Dr. C) and Zena Nyambu hail from Nairobi. Dr. C has been a vital part of both seasons of the Kenyan series, and Nyambu became a full-time cast member in the second season.
Completing the cast are Nigeria’s Mariam Timmer from “The Real Housewives of Lagos,” who has participated in all three seasons, and Princess Jecoco from “The Real Housewives of Abuja,” who made her debut in the show’s inaugural season.
“‘The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa’ transcends a typical reality show; it’s a festive homage to African femininity in its essence, diversity, and allure,” noted executive producer Graeme Swanepoel. “For the first time, we merge iconic housewives from the continent to share their journeys, tales, and unity. This show proudly embraces a Pan-African spirit, driven by women, and radiates the vibrant energy and authenticity unique to Africa.”
Produced by GOAT Productions, known for their work on “Unfollowed,” “Untied,” and the South African Film and Television Award-winning “Life With Kelly Khumalo” Season 3, this series reflects high production values.
Barrie Kelly, VP of international format production and development at NBCUniversal Formats, stated: “Each African adaptation of ‘The Real Housewives’ has showcased the rich diversity within its country while appealing to viewers both locally and globally. With ‘The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa,’ we elevate that excitement. Collaborating once more with GOAT Productions and Showmax, this series introduces some of the strongest Housewives for an unforgettable adventure. We eagerly anticipate viewers joining them on this once-in-a-lifetime trip to Brazil.”
“The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip” format debuted in the U.S. in 2021, yielding four successful seasons on Peacock, produced by Shed Media. The formats of both “The Real Housewives” and “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip” are internationally distributed by NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group.
Mark your calendars for the premiere of “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa” on Showmax, launching on November 28.
