A woman from Chicago’s South Side stands accused of murder after allegedly fatally shooting another woman outside a South Shore nightclub. Reports indicate that she confided to a friend afterward, expressing remorse, saying she didn’t intend to kill the victim but felt “God had other plans for her.”
Terri Bailey, 36, faces first-degree murder charges related to the incident on February 9, which claimed the life of 29-year-old Jamia Taylor in the 1800 block of East 79th Street, as confirmed by law enforcement and prosecutors.
During Taylor’s birthday celebrations at the nightclub, an altercation erupted between her and her former partner. Security personnel intervened, escorting Bailey and the man outside. Surveillance cameras captured them entering a vehicle that circled the back of the venue.
Moments later, as Taylor exited the establishment with a companion, she approached a white SUV. Footage revealed Bailey advancing towards them with a firearm drawn, moments before shooting Taylor at close range.
Witnesses reported hearing Bailey shout, “Hey, bitch!” just prior to the gunfire.
After the shooting, Taylor collapsed and died. Bailey fled the scene, with footage showing her sprinting down an alley, gun in hand, as an unknown assailant discharged shots in her direction. Several witnesses later identified her as the shooter.
The following day, conversations between Taylor’s ex-boyfriend and Bailey emerged, recorded by a third party, where Bailey stated she hadn’t aimed to kill but only to injure Taylor, implying that “God had other plans for her.” These recordings have been submitted to law enforcement.
Judge Costello has ordered that Bailey remain in custody pending her trial.
