Is Peacemaker Season 3 on the Horizon?
Unfortunately, James Gunn has not given a definitive answer. The climax of season 2 was designed to set the stage for the next Superman film, Man of Tomorrow, rather than for a third season.
In the Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, Gunn commented:
This might be the final episode of Peacemaker season two; possibly the last we see of Peacemaker.
We are committed to Peacemaker, the show and its characters. Peacemaker will return. In what form? We’re still figuring that out. We have plans, and you’ll be seeing these characters in the future of the DC Universe, and it won’t be long.
This indicates that while Peacemaker will return in future DC endeavors, his independent series may not be renewed for another season.

Gunn reiterated this sentiment in an interview with Deadline:
No, this is about the larger DC Universe and other narratives playing out right now. That said, I’m not saying it’s impossible to happen; however, the focus is on the future of the DC Universe. Peacemaker is an important character.
It seems that while Gunn does not dismiss the idea of a third season for Peacemaker, the overall progression of the DC universe is his priority. Thus, if a new season does materialize, it likely won’t be until later on.
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to debut on 9 July 2027. Therefore, if Peacemaker season 3 is to happen, it will likely be after summer 2027.

What Could Be the Focus of Peacemaker Season 3?

If Peacemaker does return for a third season, its storyline may intertwine with other DC franchises. James Gunn has already mentioned the upcoming releases set for the DC universe, which include:

Chris’s Imprisonment on Salvation
During the finale of Peacemaker season 2, it was revealed why Rick Flag Sr. was seeking an alternative inhabitable realm—his intention was to procure a site that could serve as a prison for metahumans. In the closing moments of the season, Chris is taken captive by the A.R.G.U.S. team and left stranded on Salvation, a prison planet, as part of Rick’s revenge for the death of his son.
James Gunn has confirmed that Salvation will play a significant role in the broader DC universe; the planet is set to appear in Man of Tomorrow. In the comics, this alternate world was showcased in a series released from 2007 to 2008, featuring the adventures of numerous prominent heroes and villains.
As noted by Gunn (via Variety):
The concept is vital. What resonated with me was the introduction, where Rick Flag Jr. and Amanda Waller said, ‘Forget it; metahumans are troublesome. They keep escaping. Let’s permanently eliminate them.’ Naturally, there are consequences when exiling villains to another dimension. In this scenario, the only inhabitant is a good guy who must fend for himself.
What awaits Chris on Salvation? What creatures lurk on this uncharted planet? Will Peacemaker find a way out? We may learn in Man of Tomorrow, but if not, these plotlines will need to be explored in season 3 of the series.

The Checkmate Agency
The group known as the 11th Street Kids—including Chris, Adebayo, Harcourt, Economos, and Adrian—established their own crime-fighting agency called Checkmate. They were joined by agent Sasha Bordeaux, Judomaster, and agent Langston Fleury, all of whom were disillusioned with A.R.G.U.S.
As it turns out, Checkmate will be another storyline, following Salvation, that will play a pivotal role in the new DC universe. Gunn mentioned (via Variety):
This represents the culmination of the 11th Street Kids and their desire to be virtuous. I believe they will excel in their endeavors. When we see them next, their situation will have advanced significantly from their humble beginnings.
If Peacemaker season 3 is produced, we will surely witness the agency’s actions. It’s also feasible that Checkmate will be central to rescuing Chris from his predicament on Salvation.

Keith’s Quest for Revenge
Even if Chris manages to break free from the prison planet, he will still have to contend with other threats. An alternate version of the United States, which is a Nazi incarnation, houses Keith Smith, who seeks vengeance against Peacemaker and his companions for the deaths of his brother and father.
To track down the dimension where the 11th Street Kids are located, Keith will need to discover a way to open a multiverse portal—potentially a plot point for the third season. One notable theme in Peacemaker is familial trauma, making the prospect of a brother from a parallel reality seeking revenge quite compelling for the next installment.
The Romance of Chris and Emilia
By the season 2 finale, Chris finally gets close to agent Harcourt. Although their relationship hasn’t fully developed yet, Peacemaker and Emilia definitely shared a date at a Foxy Shazam concert. We are hopeful their romantic journey will progress in the next season.
