A woman in New Jersey is facing charges after allegedly attacking another shopper with a knife she had just bought, following a confrontation over an extended checkout line at a Marshalls store on Saturday.
Amber Thompson, 25, reportedly threatened the victim while they were both waiting in line at the Kearny location, prompting the victim and her family to exit the premises.
However, Thompson followed her and proceeded to act on her threat, as stated by police.
She is said to have taken a knife from a packaging set she had just acquired and attacked the victim in the parking lot outside, according to ABC 7.
The injured woman was discovered in the parking lot with multiple wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Thompson reportedly fled but was later found hiding in a bathroom inside the Marshalls store, according to law enforcement officials.
The weapon used in the attack was located on the baby changing station inside the bathroom, according to police reports.
<p.Shoppers expressed their shock over the lack of security during the incident and were relieved that no one else was harmed.
“It’s astonishing that something like this could happen here. It’s just unnerving because this is usually a safe place,” one shopper commented to the local news outlet.
Marshalls stated that it prioritizes “the safety and security of our Associates and customers” and commended the officers for their “quick response” in dealing with the situation.
Thompson now faces charges including aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, utilizing a weapon for improper purposes, and endangering another individual.
