In a tragic turn of events, Carrie Elizabeth Romney, the sister-in-law of former Senator Mitt Romney, was discovered deceased near a parking structure in Valencia, California. This incident was first reported earlier.

Authorities received a call on Friday evening concerning a woman found dead adjacent to the parking garage. Subsequent investigations revealed that Carrie Romney, aged 64, either fell or jumped from a five-story building close to the Valencia Town Center mall.

Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Carrie was the spouse of George Scott Romney, Mitt Romney’s older brother, who is currently 81 years old. Their marriage, lasting eight years, was under the cloud of a contentious divorce, the details of which are now coming to light.

According to court documents acquired by The New York Post, George sought to guarantee that Carrie would not receive any financial support as part of their divorce proceedings.

The former Senator’s brother, leveraging his status as an influential attorney and the familial connections that come with it, argued in court that there were no shared assets warranting division and attempted to eliminate any possibility of spousal support.

Even though the couple had been married since 2016, their divorce lawsuit had only been filed a mere four months before Carrie’s tragic fall. The case remains under investigation, but authorities currently do not suspect foul play.

Details from The New York Post indicate:

Just four months prior to his estranged wife’s fatal plunge, George Scott Romney initiated divorce proceedings against Carrie, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The court documents illustrate his determined efforts to ensure she received nothing from their union.

Although they had shared over eight years of marriage, he contended there were no joint properties to be allocated in court. Furthermore, he aimed to dismiss any rights for either party to receive support, as reflected in the legal filings.
