Netflix has finalized its casting for the highly anticipated series adaptation of Extraction, as reported by Variety.
The streaming giant has cast 11 new faces to join the project, which was initially announced in February with actor Omar Sy stepping into the lead role. The new cast members include:
Sacha Dhawan (“The Great,” “Doctor Who”), Ross McCall (“Silo,” “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”), Pip Torrens (“The Crown,” “Succession”), Sam Woolf (“We Were the Lucky Ones,” “Neuromancer”), Michael Zananiri (“Once Upon a Time in Gaza,” “An Orange from Jaffa”), Riyad Sliman (“Ramy,” “Palestine 36”), Muhannad Ben Amor (“Andor,” “Believe Me”), Aaron Heffernan (“Brassic,” “Femme”), Jojo Macari (“Those About to Die,” “Sex Education”), Theo Ogundipe (“Mickey 17,” “Top Boy”), and Emma Appleton (“Everything I Know About Love,” “The Witcher”).
Alongside Sy, these new actors will join an already established ensemble featuring Boyd Holbrook, Natalie Dormer, Waleed Zuaiter, May Calamawy, and Ed Speleers. Netflix will kick off the series with an eight-episode inaugural season.
The official logline describes the show as follows: “In this action-filled thriller, a mercenary (Sy) takes on a perilous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Caught in a crossfire of feuding factions and merciless adversaries, he must make life-or-death decisions while grappling with profound personal scars. The series delves into themes of trauma, betrayal, and ethical dilemmas faced by individuals pushed to their limits.”
Glen Mazzara will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the Extraction series. Executive producers for AGBO include Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and Chris Castaldi, with Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin also contributing as executive producers.
The original Extraction film featuring Chris Hemsworth was released on Netflix in 2020, followed by a sequel in 2023. Both films are adapted from the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks. Joe Russo penned the screenplays for the films, while producers Anthony Russo, Gitter, and Schwerin were also involved. Hargrave directed both the films, with AGBO overseeing production.
