Nakia Thompson, the grand-niece of New York Attorney General Letitia James, made headlines recently due to her extensive criminal history, which became a topic of national interest following a federal indictment against James.

In response, the 36-year-old Thompson took to Facebook to assert, “For all inquiring minds, no I’m not in trouble, haven’t been in years at all.”

She dismissed her lengthy criminal record, which includes multiple arrests over nearly two decades and two cases of assaulting police officers, as “OLD AS HELL” and “fabricated.”

Thompson wrote that she is “very much an active mother to my children every day, work every day, and very much in college” as she approaches graduation with a Bachelor’s in Sociology and a minor in Criminal Justice, neglecting to mention a felony larceny arrest in 2019 while her children were present.

She also criticized “gossipers” for focusing on her past, which includes four traffic citations received in one day last July, one being for speeding at 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.

“I’m doing my thing!!” she exclaimed, claiming, “I walk with my head held high because I worked hard to get where I am,” portraying herself as “a walking testimony.”

Since 2020, Thompson has resided in one of James’ properties in Norfolk and is considered “an absconder for willfully avoiding supervision by her probation officer” according to North Carolina’s Department of Corrections.

Thompson received probation for misdemeanors including assault, battery, and trespassing. Officials noted the case has been categorized as non-extraditable due to the nature of these offenses.

If found in North Carolina, she could face arrest and the possible reinstatement of her suspended sentence.

The legal case against James primarily revolves around allegations of whether Thompson has been paying rent since moving into the property. Official mortgage documents listed the house as a “second home” for James, claiming she would be the main resident.

However, prosecutors assert that she has been collecting rent from the property.

James has denied these claims, while Thompson stated in an interview with the New York Times that she has not paid rent during her time there.
