Tony Danza responded to Valerie Bertinelli after she alleged that he ghosted her following a long-ago encounter in which she left her contact information in his glove box.
Bertinelli, 65, expressed during a segment on The Drew Barrymore Show that she never received a call from Danza after dropping her number there over ten years ago.
Barrymore, the host, remarked, “They never do, by the way,” suggesting that men often don’t follow through with plans to reach out.
Later that same day, Danza, who is 74, appeared on the talk show for a cooking demonstration, during which Bertinelli couldn’t resist ribbing him about apparently ghosting her.
“This is a sauce you’ve never prepared for me, even though I left my number in your glove box!” Bertinelli jokingly remarked as Danza was preparing to make his “Date Sauce.”
Barrymore then leaned in and asked Danza directly, “Did you ever find Valerie’s number in your glove box?”
Danza was quick to deny, exclaiming, “No, I did not!” He added, “I think she’s talking nonsense!”
Danza appeared skeptical of Bertinelli’s story, but the situation remained jovial as they collaborated in the kitchen. He went on to prepare a meal for Barrymore and Bertinelli, explaining the inspiration behind his famous sauce.
“I used to say, ‘Hey, come over. I’ll whip up something delicious,’” Danza shared, describing how the sauce got its name. “And that’s how the ‘date sauce’ originated.”
Bertinelli playfully jabbed that she wouldn’t know how the sauce was named since she “never heard those words,” referencing Danza’s alleged disregard.
Danza continued to prepare his sauce, adding meatballs and short ribs, revealing that his meatball recipe once triumphed over Bobby Flay on television.
As the audience was treated to culinary insights from the Who’s the Boss? star, Bertinelli shared her culinary wisdom with her followers over the years.
Bertinelli recently told Us Weekly that her top hosting advice often revolves around serving a “delicious casserole” or a “one-pan chicken dish.”
“If I’m hosting a 4th of July gathering for Wolf’s band, I’ll whip up a hearty chili or gumbo,” Bertinelli shared in September. “For my book club, I’ll probably make chicken marbella or a baked chicken and rice dish, so I can focus on chatting about the book instead of cooking all evening.”
As a guest, the former Kids Baking Championship judge noted that she often brings either appetizers or desserts to parties. When it comes to sweets, she likes to get creative and bake something special she wouldn’t normally make for herself.
“When I’m in charge of dessert, it might be a chocolate cake since I don’t often make one for myself, but they’re so delicious!” Bertinelli revealed to Us. “I know if I bake it, I’ll definitely end up with a slice or two.”
