Overview of Euphoria Season 3:
- The third season is currently being filmed
- A time jump is expected
- Some cast members will not be returning
After much anticipation and speculation, HBO has officially announced the estimated release date for Euphoria’s third season along with the complete cast lineup.
Euphoria has become one of HBO’s flagship shows, but the journey to season 3 has seen its share of challenges. Delays were caused by strikes involving actors and screenwriters, and showrunner Sam Levinson required additional time for script development than initially planned. The rising fame of the cast also posed scheduling conflicts for the production.
Following the dramatic conclusion of season 2, fans are excitedly waiting for the next installments of Euphoria. Below is a compilation of the latest updates regarding this remarkable teen drama from HBO.
Expected Release Date for Euphoria Season 3
Filming for the third season is underway. Latest reports from HBO indicate that Euphoria is set to premiere in spring 2026.
Filming has encountered some delays, as initial plans had scheduled shooting to commence in January 2025. Francesca Orsi, EVP and Head of Drama at HBO, stated in July 2024:
I’m excited that we’re set to start production on ‘Euphoria’ in January. Our partnership with Sam and this talented cast has been fantastic, and we can’t wait to bring the new season to life for the fans.
Originally, HBO had mentioned that Euphoria would make its return on Max in 2025.
In an interview on MTV with Josh Horowitz, Sydney Sweeney indicated that she would soon be working on Euphoria again.
However, it was shortly revealed that the script for the new episodes was still under development, with no confirmed timeline for completion, as the cast had been allowed to pursue other opportunities.
Plot Insights for Euphoria Season 3
This section contains spoilers for Euphoria season 2.
Season 2 of Euphoria was rife with complications, concluding with yet another tumultuous moment.
Cassie’s relationship with Nate severely strained her friendship with Maddy. In a shocking turn, Nate reported his father, Cal, summoning the police due to possession of underage explicit materials, leading to Cal’s arrest.
A pivotal moment was Lexi’s school play, which drew inspiration from the lives of her classmates. Despite its comedic nature, it resulted in major fallout, including Nate ending things with Cassie, who then suffered an attack from an enraged Maddy during the performance.
Unfortunately, Fez, who had established a bond with Lexi throughout the season, could not attend the show. In a frantic scene, he was caught in a shootout with the police alongside his brother Ashtray, which resulted in Fez being injured and Ash losing his life.
On a positive note, Rue managed to reconcile with Jules and Elliot following her dramatic struggle with addiction.

If you are looking forward to the events following the chaotic school play in season 3, prepare for some surprises. Costume designer Heidi Bivens has mentioned that there will be a significant time leap of about five years into the future. Consequently, the audience will see Rue and her peers as young adults.
When discussing season 3, Sam Levinson shared with Elle that he intends to embrace film noir elements to depict Rue’s journey in a morally corrupt environment.

Regrettably, Angus Cloud will not reprise his role as beloved Fezco in Euphoria season 3. The actor passed away from a drug overdose in July 2023, and it remains unclear how the writers will address Fez’s absence in the new season.
Additionally, it seems unlikely that Javon Walton will return as Ashtray, given the character’s probable demise during the violent confrontation with law enforcement.
In 2022, Barbie Ferreira, who portrayed Kat Hernandez, announced her departure from the series.
Storm Reid, who played Gia, is also absent from the third season, as she revealed in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes that her character is not part of the script.
Joining the cast for the upcoming episodes are Natasha Lyonne, famous for her roles in Orange Is the New Black, Russian Doll, and Poker Face, as well as media personality Trisha Paytas. Other new additions include Danielle Deadwyler (The Woman in the Yard, I Saw the TV Glow) and Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds, Idol).
