This year, Roku TV devices have received a number of enhancements, with significant AI advancements in voice control expected in the months ahead – offering capabilities akin to those found in Google TV devices, thanks to Gemini.

In addition to standard commands like launching apps or searching for shows and movies, users will be able to pose more intricate questions. Examples include, “What is the scare level of The Shining?” or “What species is Nemo?”

As reported by The Verge, Roku Voice will now display responses in text format on the screen, complete with links to the relevant series or movies. Furthermore, the software will be able to handle follow-up questions in relation to your initial inquiry. Below is a preview of how this technology will be showcased.

Additionally, Roku is introducing a Bluetooth headphone mode on its newest devices, including the Roku Streaming Stick and Streaming Stick Plus, allowing users to enjoy content privately without disrupting others in their vicinity using personal wireless headphones.

For those who prefer the Roku mobile app to the traditional remote, several free features will soon be available, such as a ‘find my remote’ option, quick access to closed captions, a sleep timer, and daily trivia. Additionally, Netflix-style rating buttons will allow users to express likes/dislikes for titles and indicate which ones they have finished watching. Users can also categorize the For You page into segments like shows, movies, sports, and more.

While watching a trailer, a new ‘Ways to watch’ option will be visible at the bottom, helping users quickly find the content being featured. Moreover, the search bar will be expanded across various areas of the platform, including What to Watch, the Live TV Zone, and ultimately, the Live TV Channel Guide.

Finally, real-time sports scores will be displayed alongside live games on Roku TV. If users prefer to avoid spoilers, there will be an option to turn off this feature. Additionally, for those who tend to overlook game times, the app can send notifications to remind users when it’s time to watch.

These updates are set to roll out in the upcoming months. However, it is still unclear if they will be limited to the US or available to viewers in the UK as well. We have contacted Roku for clarity and will provide updates to this article once we have more information.
