A mesmerizing new installation by Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett titled “A Whisper in the Eye of the Storm” is currently on display at the Northern Alps Art Festival in Omachi City. This captivating artwork features 14,000 prescription lenses suspended from concentric circles, creating a shimmering enclosure that beckons viewers to step inside.

Omachi City, nestled at the base of the Japanese mountain range, is known for its heavy snowfalls in the winter and drenching rains in the summer. The region’s deep connection to water is reflected in the installation, which symbolizes the city’s natural features like lakes, hot springs, and hydroelectric dams. Despite its rich history, Omachi has witnessed a decline in population in recent years.

Brown and Garrett, renowned for their innovative use of found and recycled objects, have transformed eyeglasses into a spectacle that captures and refracts sunlight. The lenses magnify the surrounding cedar forest, inviting viewers to see the landscape in a new light and encouraging them to explore the ancient and evolving environment around them.

Visitors to the installation are encouraged to look at the world with fresh eyes, appreciating the beauty of nature and the interconnectedness of the environment. “A Whisper in the Eye of the Storm” will be on display until November 4, offering a unique and immersive experience for art enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
