Aurora Mayor Pro Tem Dustin Zvonek has announced his resignation from the Aurora City Council, effective at the end of October, a year before his term was set to end.

Zvonek made the announcement during a council meeting on Monday, without delving into specific reasons for his departure.

“Sometimes in life, you get thrown a curveball, or in my case, it was several all at once, and after much reflection and a few tough conversations, I’ve made a decision that’s in the best interest of my family,” Zvonek stated during the meeting.

Zvonek, who was elected to an at-large council seat in 2021 and is also the founder and president of a consulting firm, expressed gratitude towards his colleagues and city staff for their dedication. He highlighted successful initiatives like Build Up Aurora and the city’s work-first homeless program during his time in office.

“Every single one of my colleagues genuinely cares about the city and its people and pours their hearts into their work, even when it seems like we’re talking past each other,” he remarked.

Mayor Mike Coffman acknowledged Zvonek’s contributions to the council, praising his leadership and stating, “You absolutely will be missed.”
