Cedric the Entertainer has spoken out against jokes about food stamps, emphasizing the seriousness of the issue.
During an interview in NYC, Cedric addressed the prevalent jokes surrounding the government’s potential suspension of the country’s largest anti-hunger program.
He expressed his concern, stating, “No, that’s not a joke. There’s so many people living with food insecurity in the United States.”
Cedric criticized the government’s approach, stating, “The fact that the government is willing to let its own citizens starve and not eat is ridiculous.”
He highlighted the importance of empathy towards those in need, stating, “All of us are one paycheck away from being dead broke in this country.”
When asked about joking on the topic, Cedric responded, “Well you know… if they’re funny…” with a wry grin.
He acknowledged the nature of comedy, stating, “I do understand that we’re going to joke about everything.”
With the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) running out of funds due to the government shutdown, approximately 42 million people who rely on it are at risk.
Originally known as food stamps, SNAP serves seniors, families with children, and individuals with disabilities, dating back to the Great Depression era.
Cedric’s stance reflects the growing concern over government actions, with Harvey Levin urging viewers to support the ‘OWTA’ movement, standing for Out With Their Asses!
