32-Year-Old Man Charged with Multiple Residential Break-Ins and Aggravated Robbery on North Side

Malcolm Junious, a 32-year-old man with a history of burglary convictions, has been accused of committing five residential break-ins and an aggravated robbery across several North Side neighborhoods. The incidents took place between June 15 and October 21, with Junious facing charges for his alleged involvement in these crimes.

Court records indicate that one of the incidents occurred on June 15 in the 800 block of West Cuyler Avenue. The victims reported missing items such as a handgun, a Nintendo Switch, $10,000 in cash, and $75,000 in jewelry. Surveillance footage captured the burglar carrying a white clipboard, leading to the identification of Junious by a CPD officer who had previous encounters with him. Investigators were able to link Junious to the burglary through pawnshop records and GPS data from his phone.

As detectives began to suspect Junious of being involved in a series of burglaries, a court authorized a “pen register” for his phone on October 17. This surveillance tool tracked his phone’s activity, leading detectives to observe Junious traveling towards Chicago on October 21, the same day several burglaries were reported across the North Side.

One of the reported incidents involved a 32-year-old woman in the 1600 block of West Rascher Avenue. She was confronted by a masked man inside her home who claimed to have a gun and threatened her. Another woman in the residence attempted to call 911, but the intruder knocked the phone from her hand, stomped on it, and fled with a jewelry box.

Police tracked Junious through his phone and license plate readers, eventually locating his vehicle near the 1400 block of West Ardmore Avenue. After losing sight of the vehicle for a brief period, another burglary was reported in the 1500 block of West Ardmore Avenue, where an intruder entered an apartment through exterior scaffolding and stole various items.

Subsequent reports of burglaries in the 5300 block of North Paulina Street led officers to locate Junious’s vehicle on Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville. Following him with the help of a helicopter and ground units, police apprehended Junious in the 7100 block of South Coles Avenue, where he was found hiding under a barbecue grill cover with the stolen items in his possession.

Junious has been charged with five counts of residential burglary and one count of aggravated robbery. His criminal history includes prior convictions for residential burglaries in Wrigleyville in 2020.
