Arch Manning suffered a head injury during the Texas Longhorns’ recent victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Week 9. Despite his impressive performance of 346 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, one interception, and a rushing TD, Manning had to leave the game due to the injury. Reports from On3 Sports indicate that Manning is currently in concussion protocol, even though he participated in practice on Wednesday. Head coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned that Manning is still undergoing the necessary steps in the protocol before he can return to the field.

Concussions are taken very seriously in the NCAA, and players must follow a strict protocol before being cleared to play again. It is common for players to miss at least one game while they recover and are evaluated by independent healthcare providers. As a result, it is highly likely that Manning will sit out the upcoming game against Vanderbilt as he continues to recover.

In Manning’s absence, Matthew Caldwell is set to step in as the starting quarterback for the Longhorns in the game against Vanderbilt. Caldwell made a significant impact in his fifth appearance for the team by throwing a game-winning touchdown to Emmett Mosley. This performance has put him in a good position to lead the team in Manning’s absence. Caldwell, who transferred from the Troy Trojans, was recruited by Sarkisian to provide depth and experience to the quarterback position.

Having previously played for Jacksonville State, Gardner-Webb, and Troy, Caldwell is now looking to make the most of his opportunity with the Longhorns. The upcoming game against Vanderbilt will be a crucial test for Caldwell as he aims to guide the team to victory. The game is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium and will be broadcast live on FuboTV and DAZN.

As fans eagerly anticipate the matchup, Caldwell will have the chance to showcase his skills and lead the Longhorns to a statement win. With the support of his teammates and coaching staff, Caldwell is determined to make the most of this opportunity and prove himself on the field.

In conclusion, the Longhorns vs. Commodores game promises to be an exciting showdown, with Caldwell stepping into the spotlight in Manning’s absence. Fans can expect a competitive and thrilling game as Texas looks to continue their playoff push under Caldwell’s leadership.
