A shocking incident involving a staffer for Democratic Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has made headlines after the individual was arrested on drug trafficking charges. LaMar Cook, who has been serving as the deputy director of Healey’s western Massachusetts office since 2023, was charged with trafficking over 200 grams of cocaine, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. The arrest came after authorities intercepted a delivery of eight kilograms of cocaine to a state office building where Cook worked.

The investigation into Cook also led to the seizure of multiple parcels containing approximately 21 kilograms of cocaine. The arrest took place during a traffic stop, following a “controlled delivery operation” at the Springfield State Office Building. Additionally, Cook’s connection to parcels seized at the Hotel UMass in Amherst, where he was previously employed, containing about 13 kilos of the drug, was also revealed.

During his arraignment at Springfield District Court, Cook pleaded not guilty, and his bail was set at $25,000. Following his arrest, Cook was terminated from his position in Healey’s administration. The Governor’s office expressed dismay over the incident, stating that the conduct was unacceptable and a breach of public trust.

In response to the arrest, two Republican candidates running against Healey for the Massachusetts governorship in 2026 criticized her leadership. They highlighted the need for accountability and a resolution to the situation. Healey’s office has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.

The incident has undoubtedly raised concerns about the integrity of the administration and the need for transparency in government operations. As the investigation unfolds, the public awaits further developments and expects accountability from those in positions of authority.
