Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Says His Day Is A Success Before He Even Starts Work. He Explains Why He’s Never Too Busy For Interruptions

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is known for his unique approach to starting his day. While many leaders are bogged down by never-ending to-do lists, Huang ensures that he prioritizes his tasks before his workday even begins.

Huang believes in tackling his highest priority work first thing in the morning. He says, “Before I even get to work, my day is already a success.” This simple yet powerful strategy allows him to feel a sense of accomplishment before the official start of his workday, making him more resilient to interruptions and disruptions that may arise throughout the day.

When people apologize for interrupting him, Huang’s response is always the same: “I have plenty of time.” This statement is not just a polite gesture; it reflects his genuine commitment to being available to others. By setting priorities and completing important tasks early on, Huang creates space in his schedule to assist others and handle unexpected situations.

Instead of scheduling one-on-one meetings with his direct reports, Huang prefers to make himself available whenever they need him. With a management team of 55 people reporting directly to him, Huang values agility and open communication within the organization.

Huang’s approach to leadership has been instrumental in Nvidia’s success. Despite early doubts about the company’s growth potential, Huang remained undeterred. He recalls being told that Nvidia could never exceed a billion dollars in valuation, but he proved the critics wrong. Nvidia has since expanded beyond graphics chips into AI, healthcare, autonomous vehicles, and more, achieving a valuation of over three trillion dollars.

Huang’s advice to others is simple: find a craft you are passionate about, be resilient in the face of challenges, and prioritize what truly matters. By following these principles, Huang believes that time can be spent on the things that are truly meaningful.

His ability to set priorities, make time for others, and focus on the big picture has been key to Nvidia’s success. By following his example, individuals can cultivate a sense of purpose and fulfillment in their own work.
