Orange Culture, the Nigerian fashion brand founded by Adebayo Oke-Lawal in 2011, has been making waves in the fashion industry both locally and internationally. Known for its bold and progressive aesthetic, Orange Culture has quickly become a household name in Lagos, offering consumers interesting silhouettes and clean tailoring that set it apart from the rest.

With a cult-following across West Africa, Orange Culture caught the eye of seasoned stylist and fashion editor Ola Ebiti, who has worked with renowned brands such as Tom Ford and Acne Studios. Ebiti was drawn to Orange Culture’s ability to bridge the gap between Africa and the rest of the world, recognizing the importance of carefully crafting styling and visuals to translate the brand’s messaging on an international scale.

In 2014, just three years after its launch, Orange Culture made history by becoming the first African label to be shortlisted as a finalist for the prestigious LVMH Prize. This achievement catapulted the brand into the international spotlight, leading to collaborations with popular stockists like Browns and Farfetch, as well as showcasing collections in fashion capitals such as Paris, London, and New York.

Despite its success, Oke-Lawal acknowledges the risks involved in creating a collection that is deeply personal to him. With concerns about how the collection will be received by buyers, press, and fans of the brand, Oke-Lawal remains focused on staying true to his vision. “It’s a scary sacrifice, but one I’m willing to take right now,” he says.

From Lagos to the world, Orange Culture represents the resilience and creativity of African designers in the face of numerous challenges. From power outages to shipping hurdles, the fashion industry in Lagos presents unique obstacles that designers must navigate. However, Orange Culture’s journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring designers, showcasing the potential for African brands to make a global impact.

As Orange Culture continues to push boundaries and redefine African fashion, its presence on the international stage only continues to grow. With a commitment to authenticity and innovation, Orange Culture is a brand to watch as it continues to make its mark on the fashion world.
