David Kusi Boye-Doe Showcases Upcycled Streetwear at Lagos Fashion Week

For the spring of 2026, Ghanaian founder and creative director David Kusi Boye-Doe made a triumphant return to the Lagos Fashion Week schedule for the second time. Known for his innovative approach to upcycled streetwear, Boye-Doe wowed audiences in the Nigerian metropolis with his unique creations. His ability to transform textile scraps into desirable garments has earned his five-year-old brand a spot on this year’s LVMH Prize semi-finalists list.

Entitled “Paradise Regained,” Boye-Doe’s latest collection showcased his dedication to sustainability and craftsmanship. Every piece in the collection was crafted from upcycled materials, demonstrating a level of tailoring and artistry that exceeded expectations. “I want people to see [these garments] and wonder how many days it took to create,” Boye-Doe explained. The meticulous attention to detail was evident in pieces like a multicolored patchwork skirt made from tiny fabric scraps, some of which took up to three months to construct.

Boye-Doe’s materials are primarily sourced from Ghana’s Kantamanto market, a renowned hub for secondhand clothing in Africa. He aimed to create a collection that not only showcased his creativity but also spoke to the soul of the wearer. Embracing the philosophy that “more is more” when it comes to upcycling, the collection featured vibrant patchwork tops, skirts, and a striking floor-length denim trench coat paired with a two-tone denim vest and mini skirt.

Inspired by John Milton’s epic poem “Paradise Regained,” Boye-Doe’s collection offered a fresh perspective on what paradise can look like. Each garment exuded a sense of brightness and defiance, challenging traditional notions of sustainable fashion.
