As of now, around 2400 properties are still without power in the South, and residents of Balclutha are urged to conserve water while repairs are being made to the treatment plant.

A state of emergency remains in place in Southland until Friday, November 7, following the destructive winds that hit the region 10 days ago.

PowerNet has reported that 1290 properties in Southland and 1100 in Otago are still without power, with restoration efforts ongoing but complicated due to the extensive damage.

Emergency Management Southland stated, “To ensure the work is done safely, there may be occasions where PowerNet needs to temporarily shut off areas that have already been restored.”

Many parks, reserves, and playgrounds in Invercargill, Bluff, and Southland District remain closed until they can be inspected. Authorities are concerned about people entering these closed areas.

In the Clutha district, which was also affected by the storm, residents of Balclutha are asked to limit their water usage until further notice due to issues at the water treatment plant caused by a faulty valve. Repair work is underway, but the reservoir level is currently at 60%, prompting the conservation notice.
