The award-winning animation “Au 8ème Jour” created by a team of students in France has captured the hearts of viewers worldwide with its stunning visuals and thought-provoking storyline. The film, which translates to “On the 8th Day” in French, takes viewers on a journey through a vibrant world filled with fabric-made animals and landscapes, all connected by colorful yarn to a central energy source in the sky.

However, this idyllic world is soon threatened by dark tendrils of black fiber that begin to invade and disrupt the balance of the once harmonious environment. Families and herds are forced to flee as the black threads spread, causing chaos and destruction in their wake.

The storyline of “Au 8ème Jour” serves as a poignant reminder of the real-world challenges we face in combatting climate change. The film’s central theme of environmental disruption and the consequences of neglecting the balance of nature resonate deeply in a world where the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement are proving increasingly difficult to achieve.

Created by a talented team of 5th-year students at Piktura in Roubaix, France, “Au 8ème Jour” has garnered over 250 awards and accolades, including Best Animated Short at prestigious film festivals such as the Bend Film Festival and Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The film’s success is a testament to the skill and creativity of Agathe Sénéchal, Flavie Carin, Elise Debruyne, Alicia Massez, and Théo Duhautois.

For those interested in exploring more of Piktura’s work, their Vimeo page offers a glimpse into the meticulous digital process behind the creation of “Au 8ème Jour.” From crafting intricate fabric landscapes to animating lifelike animals, the behind-the-scenes look at the film’s production is sure to captivate audiences.
