The era of ultra-slim smartphones may be coming to an end sooner than expected. Reports suggest that Samsung has abandoned the 5.8mm Galaxy S25 Edge due to disappointing sales, while Apple’s 5.6mm iPhone Air is also facing challenges in the market compared to its thicker counterparts. Both phones, despite their premium price tags, have had to compromise on key features such as battery life and camera quality. With two major players in the smartphone industry struggling to make super-slim handsets work, the future of slim phones seems uncertain.

However, amidst this backdrop, the Motorola Edge 70 has emerged as a surprise contender. At just 5.99mm thick and 159g in weight, it is significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the Edge 60. Despite lacking dedicated branding, the Edge 70 offers premium features that set it apart from the competition.

One of the standout features of the Edge 70 is its design. While it may not be the thinnest smartphone on the market, its sleek and lightweight build, combined with a textured rear finish, makes it comfortable to hold without a case. The phone comes in three Pantone-certified colors, with the Bronze Green variant standing out for its unique and earthy tones.

In terms of durability, the Edge 70 excels with IP68 and IP69 ratings, ensuring protection against water and dust damage. The phone also boasts military-standard MIL-STD-810 compliance and Gorilla Glass 7i for added durability.

When it comes to the camera system, the Edge 70 offers a 50Mp main lens, a 50Mp ultrawide lens, and a macro lens, providing a versatile photography experience. Early tests suggest that the camera system delivers excellent detail and dynamic range, with impressive portrait and selfie capabilities.

Battery life is a common concern with ultra-slim phones, but the Edge 70 addresses this with a 4800mAh battery and 68W fast charging support. Motorola claims up to 50 hours of battery life on a single charge, setting it apart from competitors like Samsung and Apple.

Despite its premium features, the Edge 70 comes at a more reasonable price point of ÂŁ699.99, making it a compelling option for those seeking a balance of performance and affordability. With promising early performance and a strong feature set, the Motorola Edge 70 is shaping up to be a standout choice in the ultra-slim smartphone market.
