A string of robberies on the Far South Side of Chicago has left authorities concerned for the safety of residents who use dating apps to meet new people. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Demarko Gibson of West Pullman, allegedly used dating apps to lure men into meeting him, only to rob them at gunpoint and force them to send him money electronically.

Chicago police believe that there may be more victims out there who have not come forward, and they are urging anyone who may have been targeted by Gibson to file a report. Gibson has been charged with three robberies in connection with this crime pattern, which was first brought to the public’s attention on October 23.

According to police, all of the victims were men who had arranged to meet someone through dating apps. Once they arrived at the agreed-upon location, Gibson would reportedly brandish a handgun and demand their belongings. In addition to robbing them, he also coerced them into sending money through banking apps.

Six incidents have been linked to this pattern of crimes, with locations including the 12400 block of South State Street, the 1500 block of West 111th Street, and the 11800 block of South La Salle Street, among others. Gibson is facing charges in connection with the most recent three robberies, which involved victims aged 41, 61, and 26 years old, respectively.

The investigation into these incidents is ongoing, and Chicago police are asking anyone who may have been victimized by Gibson to come forward and speak with detectives. The safety and well-being of the community are paramount, and it is crucial that all victims receive the support and assistance they need.
