A tragic incident occurred in Indiana where a mother of four, Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez, was fatally shot by a homeowner after mistakenly trying to enter the wrong address while cleaning homes with her husband. Maria, a 32-year-old immigrant from Guatemala, had been working as a cleaner for seven months alongside her husband, Mauricio Velasquez, who double-checked the address in Whitestown before they arrived, as reported by WRTV.

The heartbreaking moment unfolded when Mauricio witnessed his wife being shot and falling into his arms, covered in blood. Despite efforts by the police to save her, Maria was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department.

The Boone County Coroner’s Officer confirmed that Maria’s death was a result of a gunshot wound, but no arrests have been made yet. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are reviewing all available evidence to determine the appropriate course of action.

The tragic incident has raised questions about the homeowner’s actions under Indiana’s “stand your ground” law, which allows homeowners to use force to protect their property. Maria’s family and community members have described her as a hardworking woman who only wanted to provide for her family.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Maria’s brother, Rudy Rios, to support the family during this difficult time.
