A Repeat Offender: Juan Rodriguez Faces New Charges for Illegal Activities

A man with a history of criminal activities, Juan Rodriguez, is once again in trouble with the law. Rodriguez, who was on parole for impersonating a police officer during a violent home invasion, is now facing federal charges for selling guns and drugs to undercover agents at his home in Portage Park.

According to federal court documents, Rodriguez is accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Investigators claim that Rodriguez sold firearms, cocaine, MDMA, and methamphetamine to undercover agents in a series of controlled buys that took place between August and last month.

The federal complaint outlines several recorded transactions of drug and gun sales that occurred outside Rodriguez’s residence. On August 13, an undercover agent purchased cocaine and MDMA from Rodriguez for $500. Later that same day, the agent returned to buy a Glock .40-caliber pistol, along with ammunition, for $1,000. The serial number of the gun had been partially obliterated.

Over the following weeks, Rodriguez allegedly continued selling narcotics to the undercover agents. On October 2, he sold cocaine and methamphetamine pills to the agents for $500. Two weeks later, on October 16, he sold them a pound of methamphetamine for $1,600. All these transactions took place outside his home in Portage Park.

Text messages between Rodriguez and the undercover agent revealed that Rodriguez offered a Sig Sauer pistol for $1,000 on October 26. Three days later, he handed the pistol to the agent, which was later found to be stolen. During the exchange, Rodriguez also mentioned a forthcoming shipment of methamphetamine.

The investigation was led by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Rodriguez’s criminal history shows that he was paroled in February after serving half of a 10½-year sentence for a violent home invasion in Belmont Cragin in 2019.

In that incident, Rodriguez and a group of individuals impersonated police officers to gain entry into a home, where they tied up the residents and demanded money and drugs. The perpetrators abducted a woman from the house but released her unharmed the next day. Rodriguez was arrested during a police raid at a Portage Park residence linked to his family.

During a subsequent search of Rodriguez’s home, authorities found a loaded pistol with a defaced serial number, ammunition magazines, drugs, and other illegal items. Rodriguez was sentenced to three years in that case.
