Desperate Search Underway for Missing Miner in West Virginia

Authorities are currently conducting a desperate search for a miner who went missing after a series of mines flooded in West Virginia. The incident occurred at the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County, where a crew accidentally hit a pocket of water, causing the tunnels to flood, according to county commissioner Garrett Cole.

All miners except for one have been safely located, with rescue workers believing that the missing worker is trapped approximately three-quarters of a mile beneath the mountain.

Rescue crews have been tirelessly working to pump out the water since Saturday night, with uncertainties remaining about the amount of water left in the flooded mine and the estimated time needed to clear it all out, as reported by local WCHS.

Nicholas County Homeland Security is prepared with underwater drones to deploy once the water reaches a safe level. These drones will aid in locating the missing miner and establishing communication with them, according to Cole.

Governor Patrick Morrisey stated that the rescue operation is ongoing, with multiple state agencies involved in assessing the situation.
