Kaltura, a prominent AI video platform company based in New York, has recently made headlines with its acquisition of eSelf.ai, an innovative startup from Israel known for its conversational avatars. This acquisition, valued at approximately $27 million, marks a significant move for Kaltura as it looks to enhance its offerings in the realm of AI-generated digital humans that can interact with users in a conversational manner.

Founded in 2023 by CEO Alan Bekker and CTO Eylon Shoshan, eSelf.ai has quickly made a name for itself with its expertise in speech-to-video generation, low-latency speech recognition, and screen understanding. These capabilities enable their avatars to not only communicate verbally with users but also to visually interpret and respond to on-screen content. With a team of around 15 AI experts, eSelf.ai has developed a platform that supports over 30 languages and provides a user-friendly studio for creating and customizing photorealistic digital avatars.

The acquisition of eSelf.ai by Kaltura is seen as a strategic move to bolster the video platform company’s capabilities in real-time, synchronous conversation technology. By integrating eSelf.ai’s virtual agent technology into its existing suite of cloud-based software solutions, Kaltura aims to enable agents that can listen, speak, and interpret user screens in real time. This integration is expected to enhance Kaltura’s offerings across various sectors, including sales, marketing, customer support, and training.

Kaltura’s expansion into conversational avatars reflects a broader trend in the industry towards leveraging AI to create more personalized and interactive video experiences. CEO Ron Yekutiel emphasized that videos can now be generated instantly, tailored to individual viewers’ needs, thanks to advancements in AI technology. By incorporating eSelf.ai’s capabilities into its platform, Kaltura aims to transform from a video platform into a video-based customer and employee experience provider, where video serves as the primary interface for engaging with users.

This acquisition marks Kaltura’s fourth to date, following previous acquisitions of Tvinci, Rapt Media, and Newrow. With a reported revenue of around $180 million and profitability on an adjusted EBITDA and cash flow basis, Kaltura continues to strengthen its position in the market through strategic acquisitions and innovative technology integrations. The addition of eSelf.ai’s expertise in conversational avatars is expected to further differentiate Kaltura’s offerings and drive measurable business results across various industries.

In conclusion, Kaltura’s acquisition of eSelf.ai signifies a significant step forward in the evolution of AI-driven video experiences. By combining their respective strengths and expertise, the two companies are poised to deliver cutting-edge solutions that redefine how users interact with video content. As Kaltura continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the integration of eSelf.ai’s technology is expected to play a key role in shaping the future of video engagement across diverse sectors.
