Google Photos has recently unveiled a range of new AI-powered features that are set to revolutionize the way users interact with their images. These new features include the ability to edit objects and people in images, a new Ask button for AI-powered answers about photos or edit requests, AI templates for creating new photos, and an expanded natural language search function.

Initially introduced as prompt-based editing for Pixel 10 series phones in August, Google has now extended this feature to iOS users in the U.S. Users can now describe their edits using voice or text to make modifications to their images, as announced by Google on Tuesday. Additionally, the company has introduced a redesigned photo editor with easy editing options for iOS users.

One of the standout features of this upgrade is the new personalized edits feature, which recognizes people from Google Photos’ face groups. Users can now find the “Help me edit” option and provide specific instructions related to individuals within the photo. For example, users can request edits such as “Remove Riley’s sunglasses, open my eyes, make Engel smile, and open her eyes” to receive customized edits for each person in the image.

Google has also integrated its popular AI image model, Nano Banana, into Google Photos, allowing users to edit their photos in various styles such as Renaissance portraits or cartoon strips. Moreover, the company has introduced AI templates that enable users to convert one photo into a specific format, such as retro portraits or action figures. This feature will be available next week on Android under the Create tab in the U.S. and India.

In terms of design changes, Google Photos now features a new Ask button that serves as a starting point for different AI requests. Users can ask for information about a photo, discover related moments, and make edits using prompts. The company will also provide suggestion chips to suggest possible actions users can take with this feature, which is rolling out to users in the U.S. on iOS and Android.

Furthermore, Google has expanded its AI-powered search feature for the Photos app to over 100 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and South Africa. The search function now supports more than 17 new languages, such as Arabic, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Overall, Google Photos’ new AI-powered features are set to enhance the user experience by offering advanced editing capabilities, personalized edits, AI templates, and an expanded natural language search function. These updates showcase Google’s commitment to innovation and user-centric design in the realm of photo editing and management.
