The Samsung Galaxy Ring is on the verge of receiving a new and exciting mixed reality feature, just as two new competitors enter the smart ring market.

Recent findings by Android Authority have revealed code within the latest update to the Galaxy Ring Manager app that hints at a feature called “Ring gesture for glasses”. This development comes hot on the heels of Samsung’s announcement of the Galaxy XR headset, the first device to run on Google’s Android XR mixed reality platform. While details are scarce, it appears that users will soon be able to utilize their Samsung Galaxy Ring for gesture-based control of the Galaxy XR headset.

As Samsung continues to enhance the capabilities of its smart ring, it faces fresh competition from a startup called Sandbar. Founded by former Meta employees, Sandbar has introduced a smart ring product called Stream, which is being touted as “a mouse for voice”. This innovative device allows users to issue memos, interact with chatbots, control music playback, set reminders, and more, all through voice commands. The Stream smart ring is currently available for pre-order in matte silver or polished gold for $249, with a Pro subscription option priced at $10 per month after the initial three free months. Limited quantities are expected to ship in Summer 2026.

Meanwhile, Even Realities has launched its Even G2 smart glasses, accompanied by the optional Even R1 smart ring controller. Although the Even R1 appears to be more of an accessory than a standalone product, it boasts biometric sensors and a new Productivity Score feature for continuous health monitoring. The company promises users “gentle feedback and real-time wellness insights”. The Even R1 Smart Ring is now available globally for ÂŁ239/€269, alongside the ÂŁ599/€699 Even G2 Display Smart Glasses.

With these new developments in the smart ring market, it’s clear that wearable technology is evolving rapidly to offer users a seamless and intuitive way to interact with their devices. As Samsung, Sandbar, and Even Realities continue to push the boundaries of what smart rings can do, consumers can look forward to a future where wearable technology plays an increasingly important role in their daily lives.
