The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program in Media Arts at UCLA provides a dynamic and challenging environment for students to explore contemporary arts practice within the realm of media and technology. The program, now spanning three years, is designed for individuals seeking to push the boundaries of their artistic practice and delve into new forms and ideas.

Students in the Department of Design | Media Arts at UCLA have the opportunity to work closely with renowned faculty members such as Jenna Caravello, Erkki Huhtamo, and Lauren Lee McCarthy, among others. The program emphasizes a combination of technical and theoretical seminars, group critiques, and individual tutorials to encourage students to question traditional notions of art, technology, and new media while honing their critical awareness and developing their own unique artistic voice.

In addition to the academic curriculum, students have access to a range of resources at UCLA, including financial aid packages, teaching and research assistantship opportunities, and various grants and fellowships. The program also offers 24-hour access to cutting-edge facilities such as a digital fabrication lab, the UCLA Game Lab, and the Art|Sci Center, providing students with the tools they need to bring their creative visions to life.

The application deadline for the MFA in Media Arts program is January 4, 2026. The program encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and fields of study to apply, as they may bring unique perspectives that expand the definition of what it means to be a “media artist.”
