CBS is moving forward with the development of a new medical drama starring Jared Padalecki, as reported by Variety. The network has decided to open a writers’ room for the untitled series, indicating their commitment to the project as part of their year-round development strategy. This move follows a similar approach taken with the legal drama “Cupertino” from Robert and Michelle King, which was recently picked up to series by CBS.
The series will be written and executive produced by Anna Fricke under her Pursued by a Bear banner, with Padalecki also serving as an executive producer in addition to his starring role. Laura Terry, also from Pursued by a Bear, will join as an executive producer. CBS Studios will handle the production of the show. Fricke is currently under an overall deal at the studio, while Padalecki has a first-look producing deal in place.
The official logline for the series describes it as following “A headstrong, devoted doctor (Padalecki) practicing his unique style of improvisational medicine alongside his new protégé, a young doctor escaping her past, as they operate a mobile clinic and heal the bodies and souls of their underserved community in the medical desert of rural Texas.”
This project reunites Padalecki and Fricke, who previously collaborated on the CW cop drama “Walker.” The show, a reboot of “Walker, Texas Ranger,” starred Padalecki with Fricke as the developer and showrunner. They also worked together on the prequel series “Walker: Independence,” which Fricke co-developed with Seamus Kevin Fahey. “Walker” had a successful four-season run on The CW, while “Walker: Independence” aired for one season.
Jared Padalecki is widely recognized for his role as Sam Winchester in the long-running CW series “Supernatural.” His other notable credits include “Gilmore Girls” and films like “Flight of the Phoenix” and “House of Wax.” Anna Fricke has an impressive resume, having written for shows such as “Dawson’s Creek,” “Everwood,” “Wayward Pines,” and “Valor.”
Padalecki is represented by UTA and Industry Entertainment, while Fricke is represented by UTA and Felker Toczek. The new medical drama starring Jared Padalecki is sure to be a hit with fans of the actor and the genre alike.
