Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 cash reward for information that could lead to charges in the tragic killing of five-year-old Reign Ware. The young girl was shot to death while sitting in a parked car on the Near West Side last year.
The heartbreaking incident occurred in the early hours of May 26, 2024, as Reign was leaving a small family gathering with her father. Reports indicate that over 60 rounds were fired from four different guns in the 200 block of South Campbell Avenue. Tragically, Reign was struck in the abdomen while inside the vehicle with her father. A 24-year-old man nearby also suffered a non-fatal gunshot injury during the incident.
According to Reign’s mother, the family had been celebrating a relative’s birthday that night, and Reign had fallen asleep in the back seat of the car while her father stopped to talk with others outside. It was then that a dark Jeep Cherokee pulled up, and someone inside opened fire, forever changing the lives of Reign’s loved ones.
Reign, who was looking forward to starting kindergarten last fall, was described by her mother as bright, athletic, and always dancing. She was affectionately nicknamed the “TikTok queen” by her relatives, showcasing her vibrant spirit and joyful personality.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-535-STOP or email TIPS@cookcountycrimestoppers.org. Tipsters will receive a unique code to claim rewards if their information leads to charges being filed in the case.
This senseless act of violence has left a community in mourning and a family shattered by the loss of a beloved child. The search for justice continues as authorities work tirelessly to bring those responsible for Reign’s death to account for their actions.
As we come together to support Reign’s family and honor her memory, let us also stand united in our commitment to ending gun violence and creating safer communities for all. May Reign’s legacy inspire us to work towards a future where tragedies like this are no longer a reality.
