New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was involved in a terrifying incident early Sunday morning when he was shot outside a popular Manhattan restaurant. The 29-year-old player is currently in critical but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital after sustaining two gunshot wounds to the abdomen.
According to sources, Boyd had been dining at Sei Less, an upscale Asian-fusion eatery known for its celebrity clientele. However, he left the restaurant with two fellow Jets players and a friend shortly before the shooting occurred. Boyd reportedly told police that he sensed some tension and a negative “vibe” inside the restaurant, prompting their departure.
It remains unclear which Jets players were with Boyd at the time of the incident, as the team has not provided any official comment on the matter. The Jets have only stated that they are aware of the situation involving Boyd and have no further comments at this time.
The shooting took place outside Sei Less, where a crowded street witnessed gunfire erupting. Surveillance footage captured a car with Michigan plates speeding out of a parking garage, crashing into a barrier, and firing shots at the crowd. Another vehicle followed suit, also fleeing the scene after the shooting.
Reports suggest that the shooter escaped in a BMW X6 SUV, accompanied by a silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach with out-of-state plates. Despite the incident, Sei Less has been uncooperative with authorities and has refused to provide any security footage.
Boyd’s close friend Ernest Quander, whom he met at the University of Texas, reassured the public that Boyd is in good condition and is remaining strong through this challenging time. Boyd, who had already been on the Jets’ injured reserve list due to a shoulder injury, had recently joined the team after brief stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.
His NFL career began with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, where he spent four seasons before transitioning to different teams. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation, and Boyd’s road to recovery will undoubtedly be closely monitored by his teammates, fans, and the entire NFL community.
