The Democrats in the Senate find themselves in a bind, lacking the discharge petition tool that would allow them to force votes on legislation. This limitation appears to be a key component of the game plan devised by Trump and Thune, which involves passing the bill in the House only for Thune to let it languish in the Senate.

As a leader, I find myself in a challenging position. I reached out to my Senate counterpart, Leader Thune, to discuss our serious concerns.

They share those concerns, and I am confident that, should this bill progress in the Senate—though that remains uncertain—they will take the time to methodically address what we have been unable to amend in the House and ensure that necessary protections are in place.

It seems the Republican strategy is to stretch the timeline, effectively letting this piece of legislation fade into obscurity.

However, Senate Democrats have no intention of playing along with this tactical delay.
