TikTok, the popular app known for user-generated content, is introducing a new feature that allows users to control the amount of AI-generated content they see in their “For You” feed. This new setting is part of TikTok’s “Manage Topics” tool, which already allows users to customize their content preferences.

According to a blog post by TikTok, the AI-generated content (AIGC) control is designed to help users tailor the content they see in their feed without completely removing or replacing any content. This move comes at a time when companies like Meta and OpenAI are focusing on AI-only feeds, with Meta recently launching Vibes and OpenAI introducing Sora.

Since the launch of Sora, realistic AI-generated videos have been making their way onto TikTok, with users utilizing AI to create visuals for posts on various topics like history and celebrities. With the new AI-generated content control, users can now choose to see more or less of this type of content based on their preferences.

To access this new feature, users can navigate to their Settings, select “Content Preferences,” and then click on the “Manage Topics” option. From there, they can adjust the slider for AI-generated content to customize their feed accordingly. This feature will be rolling out in the coming weeks.

In addition to the new AI-generated content control, TikTok is also testing a technology called “invisible watermarking” to improve its ability to label AI-generated content. This technology adds an extra layer of security by embedding a watermark that only TikTok can read, making it harder for others to remove it.

TikTok will be implementing invisible watermarks on AI-generated content created with TikTok tools like AI Editor Pro, as well as content uploaded with C2PA’s Content Credentials. These watermarks will help TikTok label content more reliably, in conjunction with existing labeling technologies.

As part of its efforts to promote AI literacy and safety, TikTok has announced a $2 million AI literacy fund to support experts like Girls Who Code in creating educational content on AI literacy. This initiative aims to educate users on the implications of AI-generated content and promote safe practices on the platform.

Overall, TikTok’s new AI-generated content control and invisible watermarking technology demonstrate the company’s commitment to providing a safe and personalized user experience for its diverse user base.
