Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is set to launch in 2026, and the anticipation is building for fans of the series. As someone who had a difficult time connecting with the original release of DQVII, I am excited to see the changes and improvements that the producer, Takeshi Ichikawa, has made to the game. Recognizing the flaws in the original game and working to streamline the story, cut unnecessary content, and add new stories is a promising sign for the remake.

During a hands-on preview of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, we had the opportunity to explore key areas of the game, including Wetlock and Burnmont in Emberdale. These areas offered a mix of emotional depth and challenging gameplay, showcasing the updated graphics and voice overs that enhance the storytelling experience. The addition of Moonlighting, which allows players to dual-class and customize their party members with unique vocations, adds a new layer of strategy and personalization to the game.

Visually, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined shines with its hand-modeled character and monster designs, stunning maps, and vibrant color palette. While some traditional elements, like vocational outfits for party members, have been sacrificed for the sake of the remake, the overall aesthetic is reminiscent of the visually striking Dragon Quest XI.

After spending time with the remake and speaking with producer Takeshi Ichikawa, I am confident in the direction of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. With Ichikawa’s experience in the gaming industry and his passion for the Dragon Quest series, I believe that the changes and enhancements made to the game will elevate the overall experience for players. The release date of February 5, 2026, cannot come soon enough, and I am eager to dive back into the world of Dragon Quest with this reimagined version.
